Special Projects

Investigative:

Interns who work in the NBC 6 investigative unit are given extensive responsibilities during the semester. Interns will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • They work closely with the award-winning investigative reporter and producer, whose groundbreaking stories have led to major changes.

  • Interns' duties are wide-ranging from research at courthouses, observing the script review process, and even helping produce stories.

  • Interns may go on hidden camera shoots, accompany the producer and reporter on interviews, and check out story tips.

  • Our interns have been part of investigations that have won the Edward R. Murrow award for investigative reporting.

  • Students should have strong research and computer skills.

  • Prior internships are a plus, but not required. )

  • Consumer

    Interns will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Produce stories and web material for the Consumer Connection segment, as well as other consumer and investigative stories

  • Evaluate leads and tips sent via email, fax, or phone line in order to develop story ideas

  • Participate in meetings to discuss new stories

  • Research in reference materials to obtain relevant facts

  • Interview people who can provide information about a particular story by phone or in person

  • Conduct background investigations, including observation and undercover assignments

  • Contribute with computer-assisted projects (i.e. Excel spreadsheets)

  • Occasionally accompany investigative reporters on shoots and edits

  • Interface with the promotion, graphics and production departments to get stories on the air and promoted on a regular basis

  • Investigative/EcoWatch/Political Coverage/Daily News

    Interns will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Learn all aspects involved in the job, which include sweep stories, daily news, investigative stories, EcoWatch, political coverage, and consumer stories.

  • Evaluate leads and tips sent via email, fax, or phone line in order to develop story ideas

  • Research in reference materials such as books, news files, and public records to obtain relevant facts

  • Interview people who can provide information about a particular story by phone or in person

  • Conduct background investigations, including observation and undercover assignments

  • Contribute with computer-assisted projects (i.e. Excel spreadsheets)

  • Occasionally accompany investigative reporters on shoots and edits

  • Interface with the promotion, graphics and production departments to get stories on the air and promoted on a regular basis
