*** Texas Rangers Minor League Report - June 7th *** From The Sports NetworkOKLAHOMA REDHAWKS - The RedHawks went 4-3 for the week and maintained their place atop the Pacific Coast League's Eastern Division standings. David Newhan's star continues to shine brightly, as he hit a gaudy .469 for the week with a home run, six RBI and 11 runs scored. Newhan is currently fifth in the league in hitting (.345) and has hit safely in seven straight games which includes four straight multi-hit efforts. Jason Conti has nine hits in his last 27 at-bats and his .340 season batting average has him ranked seventh in the PCL. Relief pitcher Keith Stamler had an impressive week, appearing in three games and allowing just one run on four hits spread out over five innings. Fellow reliever Todd Williams was solid as well, yielding just one run on three hits over 4 1/3 innings in four trips to the hill. FRISCO ROUGHRIDERS - Despite their 27-30 mark on the year, the RoughRiders are just 3 1/2 games out of first place in the Texas League's East Division. The team has won six of its last 10 games, including two of its last three against San Antonio. Drew Meyer was the only player to hit .300 or better for the week, collecting nine hits in his last 30 at-bats. Jeff Smith led the club with five RBI, while Jason Botts and Meyer scored four runs apiece. Relief pitcher Billy Sylvester appeared in four games last week, allowing just one hit and no runs in a combined 5 1/3 innings of work. Erik Thompson made a pair of starts and was impressive in going 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA. He permitted just two runs over 14 1/3 innings, running his season record to 3-4. His ERA now stands at a solid 2.93, ranking him fifth in the league.
STOCKTON PORTS - The Ports put the brakes on a four-game losing streak by winning the final two games of their recently concluded seven-game series against San Jose. As a result, the team is 25-32 on the year and in fourth place in the five-team North Division of the California League. Adam Fox has been on a tear or late, collecting 10 hits in his last 29 at-bats. He clubbed four homers during the last week and has a team-high six RBI over that span. Vincent Sinisi slammed a pair of long balls, but hit just .207 for the week after collecting a mere six hits in 29 plate appearances. Relief pitchers Omar Beltre and Luis Marcano each appeared in three games last week, refusing to allow a run in a combined 10 innings of work. Conversely, Gary Hogan also made three trips to the hill but allowed five runs on 11 hits and four walks over seven innings. CLINTON LUMBERKINGS - The LumberKings hope their recent two-game winning streak will turn around the team's fortunes, which had it losing six of its previous seven tilts. Still, Clinton is a respectable 29-26 on the year and it currently sits fourth in the Midwest League's Western Division. Micah Furtado has been red-hot of late, hitting .429 over the last six games with five RBI. Justin Hatcher has five hits in his last nine at-bats, while Andrew Wishy is eight for his last 18 with four RBI. Ian Kinsler, the league's leading hitter at .388, has hit safely in five of his last six games, three of which have been multi-hit affairs. Pitcher John Danks, who ranks eighth in the league with an impressive ERA of 2.31, had a rough week in going 0-1 after allowing six runs on 10 hits and five walks in a pair of starts. Joldy Watts took it on the chin as well after permitting seven runs in just four innings of work. By contrast, Cesar Herrera went 2-0 for the week, yielding just two earned runs over four innings in three appearances.
