Sunrise, FL -- (Sports Network) - The Florida Panthers signed veteran forward Jozef Stumpel to a two-year contract on Friday.Stumpel originally signed a two-year deal to come to the Panthers in 2005 after spending the NHL's cancelled 2004-2005 season playing in the Czech Republic. He has compiled 38 goals and 109 points in 147 games over the past two seasons with Florida. Last year, Stumpel finished third on the club with a career-high 23 goals and 57 points. "Jozef is a proven playmaker who has fit in very well playing alongside our core nucleus of forwards over the past two seasons," said Panthers GM and head coach Jacques Martin. "He gives us flexibility in our line-up as he can play center or on the wing as well as our special teams." The 35-year-old, who was a second round pick of Boston in 1991, has tallied 189 goals and 468 assists in 905 games with the Bruins, Kings and Panthers. His best year came during the 1997-98 campaign with Los Angeles when he recorded a career-best 79 points (21g, 58a). Stumpel has also represented his native Slovakia in the Olympics, World Cup and World Championship competition.
