MIRAMAR, Fla. -- An animal rights group is launching a campaign to prevent pets from being stranded or abandoned during a hurricane.A commercial by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals tells the story of what happened when a Hurricane Katrina evacuee was forced to leave her pet behind. The message is to "have a plan, save your pet."One suggestion is to make evacuation plans in advance so that you know you can take your pet along with you.
Both Broward and Miami-Dade counties have pet-friendly shelters, but you must notify them in advance that you are coming with your pets.
