MIAMI -- After a day of brush fires that shut down the Florida Turnpike for hours, another blaze has broken out in Miami-Dade County.ImagesThe Division of Forestry said the fire on Southwest 184th Street has burned 10 to 15 acres.
The fire is close to a monkey testing facility that houses up to 400 monkeys, according to Joe Cavallo, of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue."Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units are battling about a 10 to 15 acre fire that is involving some property in the south Dade area," Cavallo said. "The property apparently houses some kind of a testing lab for monkeys and there are several structures that are being threatened at this time."Cavallo said he did not known if the area was being evacuated. The fire is also in the area of Monkey Jungle, but it is not affecting the facility.Miami-Dade firefighters were at the scene and appeared to have the fire under control. The cause of the fire was not known.
