Authorities say 53-year-old Antonio Discua apparently planned to give escaped inmate Reynaldo Rapalo money and provide him with transportation.

A second person has been charged with attempting to help a serial rape suspect after his escape from jail, police said.

Antonio Discua, 53, apparently planned to give Reynaldo E. Rapalo money and provide him with transportation, authorities said. He was arrested Wednesday, one day after a woman was arrested for assisting Rapalo.

"We have information that he (Rapalo) was communicating with the subject who is Antonio Discua and they've been friends for several years," Juan Del Castillo, of Miami-Dade police. "Apparently Discua said he was going to give him money and transportation out of Miami and help him flee from police."

NBC 6 learned Thursday that Discua is a local radio personality. He works for Metro Networks, which produces traffic reports on radio and television.

Herman Discua, as he goes by on the radio, is the host of a Honduran magazine show and produces traffic reports as well.

Alejandra Carvajal, 45, of Miami, was arrested Tuesday for bringing Rapalo food, money and clothing to his hiding place in southwest Miami, said Miami-Dade Detective Mary Walters.

Both Discua and Carvajal were charged with accessory after the fact to capital sexual battery.

Rapalo escaped from jail Dec. 20 by prying open a ceiling vent, cutting through bars and rappelling down the side of the building using tied-up bed sheets.

Carvajal told investigators that she threw away her cell phone after Rapalo called because she suspected that her phone might be tapped, Walters said.

"She knew that he had escaped from jail for numerous counts of sexual battery, one of which was the rape of an 11-year-old," Walters said.

Officers chased Rapalo down on foot on Dec. 26 after a tipster called with a description of the fugitive outside a video store in southwest Miami.

Rapalo was awaiting a February trial on felony counts of sexual battery and other charges that could have sent him to prison for life when he escaped. He is accused of sexually assaulting seven women and girls, ranging from 11- to 79-years-old.

Miami-Dade Corrections officials said Wednesday that strips torn from bed sheets were found Tuesday in his cell, but the tatters did not indicate another escape attempt.

Inmates sometimes tear bed sheets into strips to wrap around the cell bars as insulation to make their cells warmer, a corrections spokeswoman said.

Rapalo could face discipline, such as paying for the sheets or losing privileges, for the damage, she said.
