FPL spokesman Bill Swank said the fire started in a transformer in an outer area of the plant.

According to a spokesman for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the plant's sprinkler system put out the fire.

Officials also said the fire caused a 30-40 gallon mineral oil leak. Officials said the oil is a coolant and has been contained without causing any biohazard.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Swank said power to FPL customers was not affected.

Turkey Point is located on Biscayne Bay, 24 miles south of Miami and just east of the Homestead area.
