Investigators on Wednesday questioned a student from Lorah Park who was suspended and arrested for having an alleged hit list at his school.

The student's mother spoke to NBC 6 about the hit list and her son's involvement. She said she saw the list and on one page the word "kill" was used, and on another page, the words "after school victims" appeared on a list. The student said it was a joke.

"Kids these days, you never know with them," said Tamika Thompson.

Kids said both students and teachers were on the list made by a 10-year-old, who is in the 4th grade. The school board said it knows of only students listed.

Last week, a related incident occurred at Lakeview Elementary school, where another 10-year-old was suspended for bringing a gun to school. While the gun wasn't in working condition, the child allegedly brought it to threaten another student.

School Board member Ana Rivas-Logan, who was once an assistant high school principal, supports a new anti-bullying campaign that trains staff to identify children who are upset and who may be at risk of acting out in a way one might think would be beyond their capacity.

"These are sad times in our society," she said. "We don't deal with educational issues, but social issues."

Students said the hit list contained seven to 10 names of students and teachers.

"I will do a little research when I get home. It's sad. Hopefully the kid's situation gets solved, whatever is causing it," said Christopher Harris, a parent.

A number of parents said they have the utmost respect for the staff at Lorah Park Elementary.

The intervention took place before anyone was hurt, NBC 6 reported.
