TAMPA, Fla. -- A former Florida middle school teacher accused of having an affair with one of her students appeared before a judge Tuesday morning.
Debra Lafave, who is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery, appeared in court for a pretrial hearing.

Her trial had been set for next month, but the judge moved it to July 18.Lafave's attorney told the judge he needed more time to interview witnesses and review doctors' reports.He also told the judge he would be entering plea negotiations with the state to prevent the case from going to trial.
