MIAMI -- Investigators are searching for two men who were in a stolen truck that was involved in a crash that killed a mother on Mother's Day, police said.A work truck, which police said was stolen, was traveling north on Southwest 12th Avenue near 54th Street in Miami at about 2 p.m. Sunday when it sideswiped a blue Kia, according to the Miami Police Department. The truck then crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a red Dodge Neon, which flipped into the air and landed on the hood of a Chevy, police said. The truck also hit a fourth car.
The driver of the red Dodge Neon, a mother of three named Patricia Floyd, died as a result of the crash. Three other people, including Floyd's son, were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, NBC 6's Steve Litz reported. After the crash, the two men who were in the stolen work truck ran away. Detective Willie Moreno of the Miami Police Department said a witness chased after them."As they were chasing them a block or two away, they stopped a patrol unit that was just in the area and notified us of this tragic accident," Moreno said.Police continue to search for the two men from the truck.Floyd's father, Ralph Floyd, said he talked to his daughter at 9 a.m. on the day of the crash."I called her and wished her happy Mother's Day," he said.Floyd hopes police find the two men they are searching for soon."I just hope they turn themselves in and don't do that to anybody else, just take the punishment and stop running," he said.Floyd said his grandson has a broken leg and internal injuries from the crash.
