Plane Crashes In SW Miami-Dade Co. Nursery

MIAMI -- A two-seater ultralight plane crashed in a Miami-Dade County plant nursery Monday evening.The aircraft, police said, crashed into a wide open area of the Tropic Moon Nursery at Southwest 220 Street and 202nd Avenue at about 7:20 p.m.
The pilot and his passenger escaped serious injury and walked away from the crash. The pilot suffered minor injuries and was driven to a local hospital by a friend.The pilot said he was practicing emergency drills when the accident occurred. It wasn't clear how and why the pilot lost control of the aircraft."They didn't say much," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Elkin Sierra said. "They were just saying how they were practicing emergency procedures, they were coming in low and without power or low power somehow lost control of the aircraft."Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue said the plane is a total loss. The identities of the two men have not yet been released.
