MIAMI -- Miami-Dade police said someone fired shots at the windows of a police substation in the Hammocks early Wednesday. The incident happened at the station in the 10000 block of Southwest 147th Avenue at about 1 a.m.
A detective said officers inside the station heard a loud noise and then looked up to see shattered windows at the front of the building. There was also a bullet hole in the front door."When they looked out to the front glass, they noticed three of the panes in the windows in the front lobby area had been shattered," said Detective Juan Villalba of the Miami-Dade Police Department. One bullet hit a wall right in front of an officer's workstation, officials said. Police work behind a bulletproof glass at the station. If someone was in the lobby, police said, they could have easily been shot.Police found several bullet casings on the street outside the station. The officers did not see any suspects at the time, and the search for the shooter continues. The motive for the shooting was unclear.Police are looking at surveillance video from a camera outside the station and a nearby gas station. No injuries were reported.
