Woman Who Cared For Comatose Daughter Since 1970 Dies

UPDATED: 10:57 pm EST March 7, 2008

A South Florida woman who promised decades ago not to leave her comatose daughter's side has died.

Eighty-year-old Kaye O'Bara died this week in the same Miami Gardens room that she shared with her daughter, Edwarda.

In 1970, Edwarda slipped into a diabetic coma, but not before her mother promised her that she would stay by her side.

For the next 38 years, O'Bara tended to her daughter's every need, even turning her every two hours so she wouldn't develop bedsores.

According to published reports, Edwarda will continue to be cared for by family members.
