One high-end restaurant and gas station in the heart of southern Miami-Dade County's agricultural belt is causing a buzz.

NBC6's Hank Tester said the slightly upscale restaurant was packed on Friday and the prices were right for traveling customers like Homestead resident Faith Ploude.

"It's in a service station," she said. "Isn't that great? I think it's great. I think it's the Redlands."

The Redland Grill is inside a Shell station on Krome Avenue just north of Homestead.

"We have workers out in the fields working, picking food and vegetables," manager Domingo Saurez said. "There will be a president of a bank, owners of local business come in and have lunch and dinner with us."

Employees at the grill said the interesting combination of the crowd, gas station and affordable food offers something for everyone.

Motorists can gas up their cars and grab a bottle of wine instead of a six-pack of beer. They offer fine cigars and an almost South Beach-like atmosphere.

"I expected it to be a sandwich shop," Redland resident Nancy Howell said.

The kitchen will turn out a great burger, but employees said it's much more than that.

"This is not like fast food, is it?" Tester said.

"No, no," kitchen worker Juan Carlos said. "Never. No way. No, my friend."

Diner Raymond Valsurdi said the restaurant offers a full experience.

"You have a dining room here, gas on the outside, beautiful women walking around," he said. "I think it's a nice place."

The owners said they realized there was a need for a gas station on the east side of Krome Avenue and 273rd Street. They said their friends also told them that Homestead and the Redland needed another restaurant choice. So, they combined gas with gourmet.
