SYDNEY, Australia -- An Australian chef is trying to turn a notorious flying pest into a delicious treat -- but some aren't biting.
Strong westerly winds have pushed the bogong moths off their usual course, resulting in swarms of them infecting Sydney's homes, streets and mailboxes. But chef Jean-Paul Bruneteau said the moths can make a tasty treat when fried in some butter. The moths are known as a traditional food source for indigenous Australians because they are high in protein and fat.But some Sydney residents didn't seem to enthusiastic about the idea."Disgusting," said one man who tasted the delicacy on the streets of Sydney. "And it's still alive, fantastic."
