Car Collides With Van, Crashes Into ER

MIAMI -- A car crashed into the wall of a Miami hospital emergency room Tuesday, killing one.
Officials said a car and a van collided at the intersection of 62nd Avenue and Southwest 70th Street, sending the car through the wall of the emergency room of Larkin Community Hospital in South Miami.
A driver of a Mario's Cleaners delivery van was heading south on 62nd Avenue. A woman driving a Nissan Sentra was going east on 70th Street when the two vehicles collided. The impact sent the sedan into the hospital building.The driver of the car was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she later died, authorities said.Witnesses said doctors and nurses at Larkin Community Hospital helped the victims until authorities arrived."I heard a horrible crash and looked up and saw the van spinning," witness Earni Mathis said. "I saw the young lady or young man get out and sit down on the ground. This is a medical area, you know, medical students and things. They went to her aid."The female driver of the van, authorities said, will be OK.Neither of the drivers was on the way to the emergency room when the accident occurred.So far, no charges have been filed but homicide detectives with the Miami-Dade County police department are investigating the case.
