Julia Yarbough
Julia Yarbough joined the NBC 6 team in April 1998 as a general assignment reporter.
She currently co-anchors the WB 39 News at 10pm with Micah Ohlman.
Yarbough came to NBC 6 from KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, where she served as weekend anchor and general assignment reporter. Prior to that she worked in South Florida at WSVN-TV as morning and noon anchor.
Yarbough's experience also includes anchor and reporter positions in Louisville, Kentucky and Pensacola, Florida. Julia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She also studied at Richmond College in London, England.
Her honors include the "Sunshine State Award" from the Society of Professional Journalist for "Special Places" a look at the inclusion of minorities in the National Park System and "Rails of Trails" - an overview of the overseas heritage trail in the Florida Keys. Yarbough also received the Florida Historical Society's Best Documentary, "Port of Pensacola" Award, Community Service Award from the Pensacola Rape Crisis Center and a Media Award from Delta Sigma Theta.
Since returning to South Florida from Los Angeles, Yarbough has taken an intense interest in environmental issues. Her most passionate cause --educating others about the role of the Everglades, wildlife habitat and conservation efforts. In addition, she wants to encourage more people of color to experience outdoor pursuits.
Yarbough is a native of Fairfield, California. In addition to environmental issues, her interests include running and weight-training, bicycling, cooking and traveling. Yarbough also serves as an advisory Board Member for the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre. She is trying to master the Spanish language and recently completed her first half-marathon (13.1 miles) running for the American Diabetes Association. Yarbough is now training for a full marathon (26.2 miles) and plans to set her sights on completing a triathlon soon.
