Arsenic Contaminates Drinking Water In South Miami

MIAMI -- Residents in South Miami are being urged to avoid drinking tap water.The Miami-Dade County Department of Health said officials have found arsenic in the wells that supply water to about 100 homes.Officials did not say how the wells became contaminated, but said that arsenic is commonly found in pesticides.
The wells affected are located between Southwest 72nd and 78th Street and Southwest 78th and 84th Court.Residents in this area should have received a notice about the contamination."All these wells have exceeded the maximum contaminant level," said Samir Elmir with the health department.Elmir said officials are working with the Department of Environmental Protection to provide residents with a special filter to make the water safe for drinking.If you live in the area and have questions, call the Water and Sewer Department at 305-665-7477.
