NORTHEAST MIAMI, Fla. -- Emergency crew workers from Miami-Dade County dressed in protective bee suits attacked a swarm of bees Wednesday afternoon.
The crew said they believe as many as 30,000 bees were housed in trees of Arch Creek Park.
The workers sprayed foam throughout the park, located at Northeast 135th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Eddy Ballester said."It is the same type of foam used to put out fires in airport emergencies," Ballester said. "Crews have been preparing to destroy the bees for the past three days and were waiting for proper weather conditions."The park has been closed to visitors and officials told nearby businesses to shut their windows and keep employees inside."They are a very aggressive and territorial type of bees," Ballester said.An apartment complex neighboring the park was told the same thing."We are not sure if they're African Killer Bees," Willy the Bee Man said. "Testing needs to be done."
