When radio and cable television host Sean Hannity interviewed actor/filmmaker Mel Gibson, the subjects ranged from the impact of Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ," to Gibson's advice to other filmmakers seeking to touch on spritual subjects. But it was a question about President George W. Bush that had commentators talking Tuesday.

"I am having my doubts, of late," Gibson said of the president. "It mainly has to do with the weapons (of mass destruction) we can't seem to find (in Iraq)."

The comments seemed to surprise Hannity, a conservative who hosts a radio talk show and a nightly talk show on the Fox News Channel. Gibson is considered one of the few conservative voices in Hollywood, and is a devout Catholic. Polls show many conservative Christians support the president.

After the interview, Hannity told NBC's 'Today' show he still believes Gibson will support Bush in the November election.

"What I got from the interview was that Mel likes the president, and I'd bet that if you asked him he would say he will vote for President Bush."

'Passion' Star Meets Pope

Meanwhile, the Vatican said Pope John Paul II met with Jim Caviezel, the actor who portrays Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ."

A Vatican spokesman said Caviezel had a brief conversation with the pontiff, who then blessed the devoutly Catholic actor.

Italy's ANSA news agency reported that Caviezel was in Rome for a weekend screening of the film for the Legionairies of Christ, a conservative Catholic group. At Monday's papal audience, ANSA said Caviezel was accompanied by his wife and her parents.

Mel Gibson's dramatization of Jesus' crucifixion has been a huge box-office success, earning an estimated $264 million in the United States and Canada after 19 days in theaters.
