HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Celebrities and South Floridians went to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sunday to play the first games of blackjack in Florida.Blackjack and baccarat are among the card games now available at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
The Hollywood casino unveiled 71 new card tables, including about 55 for blackjack. The rest are divided among mini-baccarat, pai gow, Let It Ride and Three Card Poker. Bets up to $10,000 can be made in a special high-limit room. The new games at the casino are all bank games, which allow players to bet against the house."We've been very successful here with our Class 2 and Class 3 slots and poker, but now we actually offer true Las Vegas-style table games with blackjack, baccarat, Red Dog, Let It Ride and all those games that you find in Las Vegas or Atlantic City," said Jim Allen, the CEO of Seminole Gaming. The first blackjack deal Sunday evening was accompanied by bursts of confetti and loud puffs of white smoke. The Seminole Tribe of Florida had sought the Vegas-style games at its casinos in the state for 17 years before signing a compact in November with Gov. Charlie Crist. When the deal was approved in January, the tribe gave a $50 million contribution to the state, and it will give another $50 million contribution in its first year.A tribe spokesman said thousands of people packed the casino for the first blackjack deals. Among them were actress Carmen Electra and "The Sopranos" cast members Frank Vincent and Lorraine Bracco. In addition to the revenues brought in by the games, they also created jobs in South Florida. Hard Rock representatives said 800 people have been hired to run the tables.
