Gourmet chefs from ritzy restaurants in South Florida shared their talents with some special customers Tuesday in "Fighting Cancer With Your Fork."

The event was held for patients at the Miami Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital.

The meals were a special treat for Marie Pijuan, who said she is happy to have her appetite back after weeks of chemotherapy for breast cancer.

"It's very important to have a good diet and everything they served here is very healthy," Pijuan said.

Chef Jeffrey Brana from Norman's restaurant said his meal came from the heart.

"These are foods we've served to our family members who've battled with this disease so it's a personal note for us," he said. "It's a little bittersweet but it's a pleasure to be here. We wouldn't have missed it."

The event was also about educating people on cancer prevention because food choices can help reduce your risk of cancer. According to the American Institute of Cancer Research, about one-third of all cancers are linked to diet.
