NCAA Game Summary - Xavier At Temple

(Sports Network) - Dionte Christmas scored 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting, pulled down six rebounds and dished out five assists to lead Temple in an upset of 20th-ranked Xavier, 78-59, at the Liacouras Center.

Mark Tyndale poured in 22 points, grabbed eight boards and doled out seven assists for the Owls (7-8, 1-1 Atlantic-10), who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Luis Guzman added 13 points for Temple, who will play at Saint Louis on Sunday.

Derrick Brown scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Xavier (14-4, 2-1), which lost for the first time in its last seven contests. Jason Love tallied 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the foul line.

Drew Lavender contributed 11 points for Xavier, which will play at George Washington on Saturday.

A Ryan Brooks three-pointer pulled Temple within 17-15 with just over eight minutes elapsed in the game.

Lavender immediately followed with a layup to give the Musketeers a four-point lead. However, the Owls responded with an 8-0 run, capped by a Guzman layup, and took a 23-19 with just over nine minutes to play before the break.

Josh Duncan responded with a jumper almost 30 seconds later to make it 23-21, though Tyndale and Christmas answered with consecutive layups to give Temple a 27-21 advantage with 5 1/2 minutes to play in the half.

A Love layup, followed by four straight Brown points, tied the game at 27 with 2:33 on the clock.

A Guzman layup and a late Clark free throw sent Temple into the locker room up 30-27.

Two Love free throws capped a 7-1 Xavier run to start the second half, the run left the Musketeers up by three with just under two minutes gone.

After exchanging baskets for the next few minutes, two Christmas treys put Temple ahead 50-46 with 12:21 left in the game. The latter sparked a 20-4 run that left the Owls up 67-50 with just over five minutes on the clock.

With 4:22 left in play, two Tyndale free throws gave Temple its biggest lead of the game, 74-52.

Game Notes:

Temple leads 10-8 in the all-time series...Temple's Brooks added 10 points and six rebounds, while Sergio Olmos nabbed 10 boards. Xavier's Stanley Burrell had six rebounds and Duncan had nine points.
